Dog parks in St. Catharines

Parks are listed in alphabetical order; designated leash free parks * are on top. Maps indicate the exact location of the dog park even within larger parks.

Burgoyne Woods Park (near Pen center)

St. Catherines, ON L2R 3V9 View map »
If you were to exit onto Westchester Ave (going towards the down town area) from Hwy 406, you would then turn left onto Glenridge Ave going south. You will then turn left onto Edgedale Road. Follow this road straight into Burgoyne Woods Park. Once you're in the park, keep going straight. Go past the parking on the right and do not go to the left. If you go left, its a one way to leave the park. So go straight down and then up a steep hill. At the top on the right there is parking. Then it's just a minute or two walk to the designated off leash area, this area is fenced in.

The first gate you pass is for the smaller dogs. To go to the area for large dogs, just follow the path and fence around to the other gate. There are taps for water in each area with bowls and kiddie pools. They sometimes provide poop bags on site, but it's best to bring your own, just in case they run out. There is also a "port-a-pottie" near the parking lot for ourselves (thank god)

We bring our dog Oliver here (the big dog park) every weekend. There are trees, water available and bags available. In the winter bring your own water in a cooler as the tap freezes and doesn\\\'t work, they also frequently run out of bags so bring your own. Nice, young trees. 4 acres for big dogs, 1 for small. Most people are great about picking up after their dogs and they are relatively busy dog parks on the weekends. There are benches and picnick tables for people to sit at in the nicely fenced dog parks and the trails are fantastic to bring your pooch for a walk on. The only time we have not seen dogs in either the big or small dog park on weekends is when it gets dark or starts to rain. I definitely recommend Burgoyne Woods dog park!

About 50% of the time there are no other dogs at the park. The trails that run just outside the dogpark are a nice walk for both dog and owner.

there are a fair amount of dogs every evening, weather permitting

I have been to this dog park twice with my small dog. It is very nice, however on both occasions there were no other dogs in the small dog section, so no opportunity for socializing.

 St. Patricks Park

Near the intersection of Lake St. and Carlton St View map »
If you are traveling south on Lake St., go past Carlton. Turn left at the first set of lights onto Russell Ave. You'll go through one or two stop signs. You'll see the park on the right, there is parking there as well.

There is a playground there as well. Once you park, you'll have to walk across a field. This dog park is for all sized dogs. They recently put in a water tap as well. You should bring your own "poop-bag". There are picnic tables and benches at both parks. And both parks have shaded areas.

We visited this park once with our daughter and 1 year old rescue. It was Christmas Eve and we were excited to watch our girl run. There were about 5 or 6 other dogs there, ranging in size. The noisiest was the smallest ;o) The dogs played well together for a length of time - running very fast in and out of bushes. They played on the kiddie pools and made noise. Then a female english bulldog showed up and didn't quite join in the fun. She latched onto our puppy's neck. Her owner stood away from the dog and said nothing, while I eventually chased the bulldog away, while my dog ran to an empty corner and sat crying. There are rules posted at the parks - follow them. If your dog bites or requires a muzzle DO NOT ENTER THE PARK!

It doesn't have to be an "official" off-leash park, any dog friendly area has its place on our website. If you feel comfortable taking your dog there and have good experiences then we want to hear about the place! Thank you all for the updates.

Ask your friends to donate to animal rescue organizations and shelters instead of buying you presents for your birthday or for Christmas. Learn more at the Donate to Dogs website.
