I have never been to this dog park, so I have nothing good nor bad to comment on about the park itself. However, Michelle, I just wanted to let you know that I understand your anger with your dog wearning a bark collar. They are not nice things. I used to have a bark collar for my previous dog and it made him bark more because each time he barked and it "zapped" him it would hurt him causing him to bark more in pain, which caused the collar to continously zap him. It was awful and I will never use a bark collar on a pet again.

2011-12-05

Some dogs are highly agressive and the owner of the place has been bitten many times. The owner seems very high strung and nervous which makes me wonder about her ability. I took my dog there and decided not to participate due to the goings on at the time

2011-03-19  |  Regular visitor

Been taking my dog to both gone-to-the-dogs facilities for a number of months now. I could not be more happy with how they treat my dog, and how they treat me as a customer. The owners are good, honest people who take pride in improving their business. I like that they will actually tell you how your dog behaved if you ask them. Perhaps some of the more confrontational commenters would be well served by asking the staff how their dog behaves while they are not there... As I see it, we should all be more responsible for our dogs actions. If they feel it's warranted, I completely back the staff using a bark coller on my dog. What right does your dog have to negatively impact the rest of the animals?

Oh and to those complaining about the price... Seriously? Geeze should THEY be paying YOU? It works out to a dollar per day.. If it's such an issue why don't you just hit the sidewalk instead?

2011-01-19  |  Katie

Michelle, that is exactly what I'm saying. People do not want to hear your dog constantly barking and it also creates anxious and nervous energy amongst other dogs which could possible create a fight. Contrary to what you think you and your dog are not the most important people in the park. There are other members, employees and dogs that are hoping to have a pleasant time there. You should deal with you dogs separation anxiety before you bring them to a dog daycare facility.

2010-12-07  |  michelle

To Katie. So your saying because my dog brutus barks obsessively that gives them the permission to place a Bark collar on my dog? Wow girl you are the ONE THAT NEEDS TO WAKE UP!!!!!!!

2010-11-29  |  Katie

This is a great place and have recently opened a new location in the North end. Linda and Mike are very responsible and I feel 100% comfortable leaving my dog with them or anyone they employ. They all know your dogs names and make you feel welcome. Mike would not put a bark collar on your dog if he was simply barking "when you leave" and "when you come back". He was obviously barking obsessively and to the point of disturbing other dogs and members. The parks purpose is not for your dog to exercise his vocal cords to the detriment of others.
It's really best to only drop your dog off for daycare if they are able to be alone with other dogs and unknown people without having anxiety issues.
Anyways, great place, great people, great place to exercise and socialize your dog. Yes you have to pay, but he is not going to pay rent and lease a house and farm for YOU to have somewhere to bring your dog. Wake up.

2010-11-12  |  Michelle

Gone to the dogs is not a place to board or place your dog in daycare for reason being I have a rotti and left for the daycare my dog barks when new people come in as well as leaves well upon my return another couple that had been there for 3 hrs hours had told me that my dog brutus would not stop barking and Mike the owner had placed a bark collar on my dog and had removed it as i pulled in to pick him up .. be careful who you come to trust to take care of your pet .. I will not recommend anyone to take their dog to this park .. not happy at all with the bark collar Idea

i would like to respond to "Dissatisfied"; I think you must have something going on that you're not telling us.
I have been a member of the Kingsway Dog Park for nearly a year and it has been a life saver! I come & stay with my dog, I leave her for anywhere from a couple hours to the entire day and I have used the boarding on a number of occassions. I have never had a problem; my dog loves to go, there is never a fuss and I know she is well cared for.
How would you know if there was no supervision of the dogs indoors when there are people outside...
Sorry for what ever your issue is maybe you should learn to share like an
adult and stop using this juvanale fear mongering, it doesn't wash.
To anyone who is curious about the park, stop by, meet Glen, Lori & family; you won't be disapointed.
A big thanks from Pepper & I for the wonderful times had and to come!

 Kingsway Off-Leash Dog Park

768 The Kingsway in Peterborough, Ontario View map »
Just west of the Lansdowne Place Mall, on The Kingsway

This park was sent in by a visitor. Sounds a bit like an ad but it is an off-leash park so I'm posting it anyways, here it goes: (any third party reviews/comments would be much appreciated)

We are able to offer over 2 acres of clear level off-leash area to let your dog run and play. With well tended spaces, including shelter from the weather, and a dedicated friendly staff, the park offers a great fenced, secure opportunity. We have waste bags and cans to deposit them in that are regularly emptied.

We also offer Doggy Day Care and have packages for most every need, at reasonable prices.

Dee, there are three separate fenced outdoor areas, plus indoor areas.
Lori and Glenn and their staff do an excellent job of keeping an eye on all the dogs and keeping younger, smaller, or more timid dogs separate from the larger, more active and boisterous ones. The main eterance is through the gate into the main fenced enclosure. I have never had a problem taking my dog in through the gate, but if you have concerns call Lori or Glenn and I'm sure they would either meet you at the gate or let you in through the office for your first visit.
My dog has been going to this park for half day daycare for several months now and I haven't had any problems. My dog Schooner is very happy healthy and generally well behaved, largely due to Kingsway Dog Park.

Good afternoon,

I noticed that the majority of the commentors are more than happy to use the facilities offered at the Kingsway Dog Park. I had some questions for you, if you wouldn't mind answering them.
Is there a protocol put into place to avoid dog fights? I have a 5 month old puppy who I would love to take there but I have some reservations, only because I am scared that she will be hurt by another dog. I went there today to check it out and saw the dogs that were there. Seemed like a nice bunch. She was really interested in them but I couldn't find a way to enter the park other than through the gate that went in with the dogs. It may seem dumb, but I couldn't find an alternate entrance. I would have assumed that you could go into the building or other gated area and then make your way into the actual park. Did I just not see it?
About the doggy day care - Is that in the building area? I called and liked the sound of it. Seems like they have a lot to offer while staying there. What are you expected to bring - food, toys, etc.?
I would love to hear comments about the dog park, so I can start taking Shiloh. I think socializing with the other dogs would be good for her. She has some attachment issues and I would love to see her get over them. She is a great dog but has had a difficult beginning. We are her 4th home and I want her to have a great life!

Thank you very much,
Have a great day!

i was waundering is it just the normal shots needed to enter the park.

Hmmm seems to me Katie & Jess are the same person... just making a point here!!!
just seems to coincidental both posted the same time and date.. the only dogs at this park that are not spayed or neutered are the puppies Jess they are to young to have the surgery so next time you want to give your say make sure you have all the facts....

2010-11-29  |  Jess

A dog who *previously* went to this park was attacked and bitten here, with the attack resulting in stitches. Do not take your dogs here. They allow dogs who are not neutered or spayed into the park and to play in the same area. Completely irresponsible.

2010-11-12  |  Sheli

To Anti- Drama Queen.. Instead of going by what comments are posted why not check out the park b4 before making a decision and see for yourself what the park has to offer.. see first hand how much we all look out for each others furry friends as well as the joy and happiness each one furry friend brings to the park we have all watched each others pups grow and all the customers have been their when someone loses a dog as I have lost mine Lori & Glen ARE great people great friends and they have big hearts..so b4 passing judgement why not see for yourself what this park can do for U and your dogs ..

2010-11-10  |  Marcy

I really don't believe it's a question of tension or drama, simply regular members defending a place that our furry friends truly love. I know all of the posters who left their names, and they are a great group of people. Truthful reviews and constructive criticism are one thing, but a nasty attack that mirrors, almost word for word, an ad on the local Kijiji for a non-profit dog park, is quite another. Being passionate about your own cause is fine, but not at the expense of a local small business.
Just an update to my earlier post - my blind pup, Kellar, is now six months old, and loving every moment of life! The staff and even the other members of the Kingsway Dog Park have taken the time to learn his safety commands so that he can have the best possible experience. He even plays fetch with a regular tennis ball, finding it by being told "hot" and "cold" if he can't hear it moving. The staff and other park members have been very involved in this part of his training, supporting us every step of the way. Thanks again from Cooper and Kellar!

2010-11-05  |  Anti-Drama Queen

I'll be visiting the Peterborough area with my 2 dogs and won't be visiting this dog park due to the divide in comments. Anyone with anything less than glowing to say gets nasty reply comments from illiterate posters (spell check, anyone?) Seems like too much tension and drama for our taste.

to Unimpressed!!! There is a hidden agenda where u r concerned .... its not a cash grab we took our pup to the Dog Park from the time he was 10 weeks old to the day he passed and u could not ask for a better well mannered pup as many of the dogs are there ... we now take our new pup there and she loves it as much as any of the other dogs there the grass well there r areas with grass but with the grass it makes it hard to keep the park clean of the poop as there is some left behind that is where the wood chips come in makes it much easier to maintain a clean park .. the dogs have no Quams about the park they have lifelong friends the mountains of woodchips well did u even stay long enuff to see all the dogs run and jump and sit on those wood chips tell u what give ur real name instead of being hiding behind the name \"unimpressed\" maybe then we will find ur hidden agenda!!!!! ....

2010-08-24  |  Marcy

I have been bringing my dog since he was 3 months old - and we now have to call it the "D.P", because he goes nuts if you say the words. I'll gladly pay the membership fee to know that all the dogs there have had their shots, and I have NEVER been there that either Glen or Lori is not supervising the dogs - one of them inside and one outside. And both my dogs love those kiddy pools.
I have also recently adopted a 3 month old puppy - WHO IS TOTALLY BLIND. I would leave him in the care of either Glen or Lori without a second thought, as I would my other dog.
And to "unimpressed" - where do you get off, implying a "cash grab"? Did you know that when there are dogs boarded, either Glen or Lori will spend the night there? That there are months where they don't get to go home together at night at all? I don't call that a cash grab, I call that dedication.

2010-08-23  |  Tanya

I have been a member since the park reopened last fall and have nothing but good things to say about the park, facilities, the staff and the members that go there on a regular basis.
I travel from the north end of the city at least 4 times a week (and would be there everyday if time permitted) because there is such a sense of community that I have not found elsewhere in the city.
I have also used their daycare facilities more times than I can count and my dogs have always been well cared for. You can't even say the "P" word in our house without our dogs getting excited, grabbing their leashes and bouncing at the door. The staff are the first people they greet upon every visit... so despite the what some people think, $30.00 a month for unlimited access, seven days a week, 365 days a year, to a great park and is WELL worth it for my dogs.

2010-08-23  |  Faye Osborn

To dissatisfied;
I have been a member of the kingsway dog park for nearly a year, or should I say, we love it. Pepper has used all that it has to offer on several occations with no complaint.
Seems to me the grass or lack of it is more of an astetic for you, there are lots of cool spots for the dogs, they love the pools, and there is great space for the humans to hang.
You won't meet more dedicated and caring people than Glen & Lori; Glen is always eager to share any of the latest dog whisper like info he has and Lori will fuss over everyone. Their children all pitch in to make everyone feel at home, everyone works hard to make it a comfortable & safe enviroment for each & every dog.
I,m sorry your experience was unfavourable, your discription of the park almost gives the impression of rumour mongering because myself and many other (who, might I add attend regularly) have not seen the so called poor supervision that you account.
I'm really left thinking that there is some hidden agenda...

2010-08-23  |  Kayla G

I have been a member of the Kingsway Dog Park for almost a year now, which I go to every day and can not say enough good things about this facility. I have two male huskies that I would not be able to take care of properly without access to this park. They have access to over an acre to run and play and socialize with other dogs. Since coming here I have never seen my dogs so content and happy, and it has made us enjoy them so much more at home because they have that fulfillment that they had been missing before the park. Lori and Glen who operate the park are two of the most caring and selfless people that I have met. They are always out supervising and ensuring that each dog has a wonderful time when they are there. They have dedicated their lives and family to this park because of their love of each and every kind of dog!
In response to the comment I saw earlier, whoever this person is, and it is very brave to be \\\\\\\"anonymous\\\\\\\" has obviously not set foot into this park. Their comments and observations about this dog park are untrue, and unfounded, and clearly an alternative agenda is at work here.
To sum up, this is a dog park that is part of a community, the rates are very reasonable and is worth every penny for the enjoyment that my dogs, and all of the other dogs get from going there! It is a place that I have recommended to all of my friends who have dogs who have only had an amazing experience! Thank you Lori, Glen and family for your dedication and perseverance that allows my dogs the chance to have a happy healthy life!!!

I love Kingsway Dog Park, the space is perfect for dogs, and convenient for in town errands. All of the dogs are so excited to be there, running around and playing - and the owners are very personable and are constantly taking good care of the dogs there as if they were their own.

For being located in the city, the area is absolutely perfect for the dogs, plus no where else in town allows dogs to be off leash.

Anyway, I think its a wonderful environment with many loyal customers!

2010-08-12  |  unimpressed

This would be more fitting to be called an unsupervised dog parking lot. There are no trees, the grass is scarce and it is not even an acre. It is more like a gravel warehouse parking lot with some kiddie pools plunked down. The price is outrageous (30 dollars a month) when most (albeit not-for-profit) community dog parks usually run 10-20 dollars a year with some of that going to charity. Not to mention, most dog parks require an owner there to supervise their dog while they play, but since there is a doggy daycare there, the people running it have people's dogs running around unsupervised outside while they are sitting in the office inside. When I went there to visit, there were approximately 15 dogs in the park outside and 4 or 5 people. The rest were staying there at the daycare unsupervised.

Also beware of leaving your dog at the daycare as when asked if they have petcare insurance they stated they did, however, this insurance is usually to cover the event of a dog needing vet care from a dog fight while under the supervision of the facility, however they stated that their "insurance" that they have does not cover this and if your dog is injured while being unsupervised there, you are going to have to foot the vet bill.

It is obvious someone here is trying to make some fast cash while providing very insufficient facilities. Hopefully a not-for-profit community dog park is built.

I had a good experience at this park with my two dogs today, they loved it there and the owner was friendly and accommodating. The other dogs were all fine, happily running around, playing, some were buddies having been there in daycare for months ... it was quite a sight and I will return.
