Dog parks in Owen Sound

Parks are listed in alphabetical order; designated leash free parks * are on top. Maps indicate the exact location of the dog park even within larger parks.

Major and friends leash free dog park

1st ave East between 12th and 13th street
Just north of the abandoned rail station

Opened in October 2010. There were no poop bags available yet when I was there but they say it's one of the things they are going to implement, though there are trash cans for the disposal of them. Some benches and smaller trees, as well as a shrub and some sort of graveled spot with 4 large wood pillars around it.

No agility area per se, but there are 5 solid concrete steps in the north west corner you can have them go up and down. No large/small dog area either, it's basically a large field that's entirely fenced in.

There is a sort of staging entrance where you go through one gate to a small fenced in area to remove the collar, get them in a calm state of mind, etc, then go through a second gate into the park. Parking for maybe 10-15 cars on gravel, more if you're creative I guess.

There were 27 dogs in the park when I was there with my beagle yesterday, from a big rottweiler to a little jack russel, and everybody was getting along just fine. Hours are basically dawn to dusk.

The park is closed for the winter due to the diffculty of maintaining it with all the snow. The gates are supposidly locked but there is one or two individuals who still bring thier dogs and use it.

The park is now marked closed for the winter. Many people would like to know if there is any way it could be kept open for the winter. There are several users of the park that would be willing to shovel the gated area for entry.

I am a little confused. Is Major and friends park open year round? a friend went there and told me it was closed for the winter. I am not sure if a sign was posted with that info or she just thought it was closed. Can u please clarify if it is open year round , or shut during particular dayss? thanks. tam

It doesn't have to be an "official" off-leash park, any dog friendly area has its place on our website. If you feel comfortable taking your dog there and have good experiences then we want to hear about the place! Thank you all for the updates.

Ask your friends to donate to animal rescue organizations and shelters instead of buying you presents for your birthday or for Christmas. Learn more at the Donate to Dogs website.
