My biggest issue with this place is that owners feel they shouldn\'t have to leash their dogs in the parking lot.
I\'ve been assaulted countless times by off-leash dogs in the parking lot. Thus tangling my dog\'s leashes around me and potentially starting a fight. Not that a fight has ever broken out, but I don\'t know any dogs that particularly appreciate other dogs jumping in their face when they are restrained.

It also terrifies me that one of these dogs is going to end up under the wheels of my car without me noticing.

Aside from that though, I do really like this park. My dogs both enjoy walking through the wooded trails without running the risk of being yelled at by non-dog owners LOL
IMO this is what a dog park should be. A place for the dog to exercise, not a tiny field where an accident is just waiting to happen as a result of all the pent up energy.

Ive been at the dog park 3 times now with my dog and everyone has been really great. if someone's dog was getting dominating they would get on top of it except for yesterday a yellow lab was getting aggressive and the owner did not do anything so I decided to walk away from the situation.

I went to the dog park on Sunday and love it. My dogs had a great time I would recomnend it to anyone who has dogs and wants some where they can run off lease and
meet other dogs.

To anyone that has dealt with an aggresive dog at the park. Please, disapline the dog if the owner won\'t. I have a 4 month old puppy and if any dog decides to get aggresive it will pay for it\'s owners in ability to control it. I know that sounds harsh, but if a dog attacks me, or my dog, I will without thought protect myself and my dog at any cost. So, if anyone chooses to bring an unmuzzled aggressive dog there, understand if your dog is out of control I will control it. I\'m not abusive, but I will not tolerate my safety or the safety of other\'s being risked cause your not a good owner.

I went for the first time last weekend with my new buddy. Great area but I only wish the off leash area was fenced in or perhaps another off leash area with a full fence. I've only had my new buddy for just over a week so not comfortable letting him off the leash yet without a boundary. I find it also easier to keep an eye on all dogs if the area is fenced in.

I was also there at the park that day on September 17 2010. I agree that isn't the first time those dogs have done something like that. It's happening more and more and NO ONE is doing anything about it but sending us to call an office that is also not doing anyhing about it.
Danica I have made a group on Fb called Close Oshawa Dog Park, its really a group to try and have some changes made and get proper enforcement. Make the park safer... We need to all stand together on this subject :)

I was at the park this evening around 7:00. I had my dog off leash in the big open part of the park where four people showed up with their two dogs. One of them was a muzzled german shepard and the other looked like a shepard / pit bull mix, both almost entirely black. I would say both dogs are around 70 lbs. Both make me feel very uncomfortable.
This evening there was an incident where one of the dogs was bitten and bleeding. The unmuzzled dog attacked another dog and jumped on it's owner. I later heard that somebody else's dog had also been attacked by this same dog. I have seen these people and dogs three times now. They make me feel uncomfortable to bring my dog to the park. There have been other people from the park who have also commented on the dog's behaviours.
I think that this situation needs to be addressed as soon as possible so that this does not happen again. Or far worse, someone's child becomes the target of one of these attacks.

Harmony Valley Park is a large parcel of land (75 acres+) with a combination of wooded and meadow lands. The off-leash area is approximately 25 acres with multiple access points. There are a number of trails that enable dog owners to hike through a natural setting allowing their dogs to run off leash (for a trail map, visit www.harmonydogpark.ca/pdf/hv_map.pdf). Harmony Creek also runs through the area, providing a place for dogs to go for a quick swim.
The parking is on Rathburn St. in Oshawa, ON and could use some improvements. Due to the popularity of the site, parking can be tight during busy times.

There is a garbage bin and information board just outside the entrance of the park and though it is encouraged for owners to bring their own bags, there are biobags available.

Additional trails in Harmony Valley Park are available for leashed walks.

It doesn't have to be an "official" off-leash park, any dog friendly area has its place on our website. If you feel comfortable taking your dog there and have good experiences then we want to hear about the place! Thank you all for the updates.

Ask your friends to donate to animal rescue organizations and shelters instead of buying you presents for your birthday or for Christmas. Learn more at the Donate to Dogs website.
