It has been relocated and renamed: Totoredaca Park. Should be on totoredacapark.org

The correct website address for Totoredaca Park is: http://www.totoredaca.org/

Battleford Park was relocated and is now called Totoredaca.

 Etobicoke Valley Off Leash Park

South end of Southcreek Rd., off Dundas View map »
South of Dundas on Southcreek Rd, just west of Hwy 27.

Sent by a visitor: "The creek is shallow and our dogs loved swimming there. Lots of wild life. The kids loved the big frogs and snake that we saw."

I've been to the park once (sorry, no pics) and it's not a bad place. It's not a typical dog park at all rather a mini-wilderness area with a trail, trees and shrubs. Plenty of space for dogs to run around off leash but it's not fully fences so make sure the "come" command works well with your pup.

Is this park open again?

2011-09-18  |  Linda

There's coyotes all over the place, especially along river & creek areas. So if this worries you...but have never been approached by one.

Was at the park today (Sunday Sept 18th)... the area is blocked off, but went through a gap in the fencing, they have FLattened the area and are pumping water along the trail beside the river. a few big holes and they are putting in massive piping for sewage. I wonder if this has anything to do with the garbage/power plant or whatever is supposed to be going in at that big plateau of land above the creek a ways downstream from the park? Anyone know? Looks like some massive work is going on there too, near the rail area. What a waste. That whole industrial complex is a waste of what is a beautiful wilderness area. I hope they find a way to keep it as a trail, it is special.

When is etobicoke valley opening again?? My dogs and I love it there!

2011-03-09  |  VJ

It is now closed due to some construction, or at least the billdozers all around make me think that. I certainly hope it will re-open as an off leash park again. It is awesome for the dogs! Someone told me the construction is to repair/replace some sewers? Here's hoping this won't take too long.

This is a great place to walk your dog off-lease. not good for standing around watching your dog play. ideal for people looking to get some moderate excercise as the trail is a few km along the creek. different but worth the trip

2010-09-25  |  moveebuff

This is more of a wilderness experience for your pooch than the usual off leash dog area. If your dog loves going for a swim this is the place to go.

Hi,

I heard there has been a few incidents that people have spotted a coyote at this park? Is this true, if so, are you making dog owners aware of it?

watch out, some people don't pay attention there. i was there the other day and this kid and father was starting to leave and they kept both gates wide open and let my girl out. next thing i know i'm chasing her all around the park and the bastards didn't even apologize or help me get her back, they just walked off as if nothing had happened. luckily there are some really good people there and they brought their dogs outside of the park to help me wrangle my MJ. good park, just gotta watch some of the people cause they can make some pretty dumb moves.

My friend and i live about 5 minutes from the park and it is a great park to go to, I own a siberian husky and she owns a cocker spaniel/bichon. Its of good size, theres 4 different picnic benches in different corners of the park. There are two under two large trees, where all the owners and dogs like to hang out for some shade! Overall the dogs in there are friendly, large and small, most owners are responsible if their larger dog is getting too rowdy. With that said there are a lot of small dogs that come in and have no problems! There is no running water, or washrooms. Lovely place to go and meet friends and for our dogs to play and socialize!

 Jack Darling Park

1180 Lakeshore Road West View map »
Halfway between Southdown Road and Mississauga Road on the south side.

For more information about the park visit the Jack Darling Park website.

I've read it somewhere that the only thing missing from this park is an on-site Tim Hortons:) Couldn't agree more but let me add drinking/running water to the wish list.

Jack Darling Memorial Park's off leash area is one of the largest fully fenced designated dog parks in Ontario (I haven't see anything larger yet).

The park has 5 parking lots, 3 of which are right by the dog park so we are all spoiled when it comes to parking. Except in busy summer weekends/holidays when the park is packed with picnicers, parking can be really hard to find then, but around 350 days a year it's not a problem.

The park is huge and, considering its size, well maintained. There are always plastic bags available by the two main entrances. (there are four entrances to the dog park by the way). The north end is the busiest area, that's where people tend to hang around and chat by the gate. There is a hill just south of there which is converted into a toboggan hill in the winter. The park is open all year from 7am to 9pm and there are some restictions in the summer when dogs must be leashed in the daytime (10am and 6pm I believe) on weekends and holidays even inside the park. Yeah, whatever.

On the south end there is a sandy area and on the outside of the fence by the tennis courts there is a large field which is pretty much the picnic area for dog owners. Picnicers who stay by the designated picninc spots with barbeques and nice benches don't come here which is perfect because I much prefer sitting on the grass in a quiet spot not having to listen to whatever's playing in people's boomboxes.

Membership (non-mandatory but please consider buying one) is $10/year for one pooch or $15/year for more than one pooch. The membership is valid for all other Mississauga dog parks, too.

ps: City bylaws don't allow dogs to be on the nearby beach, a law probably made by some dog hating goverment employee who, after passing the law, forgot to add a few designated dog beaches. I'm sure there are a few spots here and there where our dogs won't get sick from the contaminated water and believe it or not we don't want a 5 mile wide section with sand imported from Egypt and water tested every 2 hours. But there is not even a shitty spot. So screw you people in the lawmaking offices.

I live in Port Credit and I used to bring my German Shepherds to this park. I totally agree with the lady with the little dogs. Her description of the people who go there now is totally accurate. I have seen owners of large aggressive dogs laugh and joke as their dogs chased smaller dogs running for their lives. They make no attempt to stop their dogs. I have seen many others chatting, smoking and drinking their Tim Hortons coffee with their park buddies while paying absolutely no attention to their dogs.

This park is an accident waiting to happen. When a smaller or younger or less aggressive dog is eventually slaughtered by one or more likely, a pack of the more aggressive dogs, it will begin the closing of all dog parks.

I to have a small dog,and was planning to visit this park when im in the area.I live in Barrie and we have an amazing park where there is a big variety of dogs and responsable pet owners. If some one is there with a not so friendly dog they keep it on a leash or leave. I have been going for 2 years daily and never a problem. My dog is a pug,i also at times have 2 of them with me and no problem. I am very sorry to hear you cant be at this park, cause of these issues.

2009-07-24

Hello. I have just started going to the off leash dog park with my little chihuahua and my sisters mini dashound.

I noticed the people that go to the park and bring there dogs are not very friendly and welcoming of the smaller breeds.

They feel its a big dog park only and no place for small dogs.I noticed a sign that all owners need to watch there dogs and to have control over them meaning they come when called.

Both my dogs stay near me when at the park infront or behind me they never go to the other dogs and bother no one.

The dogs at that park are out of control I usually pick my dog up and carry him as to not get hurt and the onwers have told me this is no place for him.

I have also had comments of thats an ugly dog, Thats not a dog! and that dog shouldnt be here.

The dogs I bring to the park are well mannerd and stay to themselves.

I have had onwers dogs chase after my dog one nearly killed him where I had to stand inbetween the other ladys dog.

Noone calls there dog when they care chasing and growling at my dogs.We have been chased out of that park by both owners and dogs.

They have made it clear by there actions they do not want small dogs there and that is not fair I paid for membership just as they have.

Plus that park is never cleaned up by people there is sooooo much dog poo people just dont care.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had bad experiences at Jack Darling dog park. The behaviour of owners is completely unacceptable, however, you should be prepared to deal with larger dogs. It's like taking a 3 year old baby to a high-school camp - no matter how nice the bigger kids are the little one will be in danger simply because of his/her petite size.

Post park in Oakville has a small dog area, it's really nice and big dogs won't bother you there.

 Quenippenon Park

On Erin Mills Pkwy (west side) between Eglinton Ave and Thomas St. View map »
The park is just north of the Erin Mills Town Centre. Only southbound lanes can access the park so you want to be comin from the north - drive down Erin Mills, the park is on your right just past Banfield Rd. Make sure signal ahead of time because cars won't expect you to turn here otherwise.

Relocated from the park just north of the Erin Mills City Center a few years ago.

I used to spend a lot of time in this park when I lived in Mississauga. The parking lot is in great condition – and so is the park. There are plastic bags all the time, benches, shade and a bulleting board.

When I was there last time a few volunteers were fixing the gates and fences and serving cheap Tim Hortons coffee. These folks do a great job maintaining the place – thanks! The park is separated into two areas, one for smaller dogs and one for bigger ones but this is just my theory because I see big and small dogs in both areas all the time playing in peace. I only had one incident when a boxer harassed my timid golden and the owner of the boxer was a jerk about it. But this can happen anywhere, it’s nothing to do with Quinnepion park really. I am just trying get the message across to dog owners that sometimes dogs need to be disciplined – even your own dog. I read it on a dog-daycare website once that people tend to be more protective and aggressive when their dog is disciplined by others than when it happens to their children. Maybe it’s time for obedience training?

In the fall the ground can get a bit muddy so many people end up walking their dogs outside the fence – there is a large green area north of the park but only let your dog off leash here if he/she is not a runner because Erin Mills Pkwy is near.

Membership cots $10/year for one dog or $15 for 2+ dogs and it is valid for all other leash free parks in Mississauga.

There is a nice, shady area at the back of the park. The only thing missing is access to water. Open all day, every day.

i took my dog here a den times and i have to say i will never use this park again . There are many jerks that take there dogs there hang out and dont care what there dogs are doing . This one time there was a group of punks and between them they had 3 large dogs and of amuse the dogs were all bullies and kept harassing my friendly dog . They were trying to bite him and they did nothing . I am a small woman and was trying to protect my dog while they watched . I them went on the small side and closed the gate and of course in 5 minutes they came in there with there dogs . I cant believe the ignorance of the people that use this park . I wouldn take my dog there if he was a bully . Its to bad that you cant even feel safe at a public dog park because of people like this . Honestly your not safe in this park if you have a nice dog your only safe if you have a large aggressive dog . My dog was bit and surrounded by all 3

I was at Q Park (Mar. 6) and there were a few beagles, a jack russell, a boston terrier, etc. All small breed dogs. A car pulls up and a doberman and 2 mastiffs unload. Once in the park they were chasing and hurting the other dogs. I approached the owners and asked that they move to the adjoining park and they would be away from the others and all could enjoy the park. They wouldn\'t. We all had to pack up our dogs and get into our cars and leave. I did try to call animal services but there is no answer on the weekends. Add a few little kids to the mix and it could be very nasty. What can I do if this happens again?

 Totoredaca

Meadowvale Bldv. between Meadowpine Blvd and Hwy 407 View map »
Turn onto Meadowpine Blvd from Winston Churchill - it's just north of the 401 onramp then turn left onto Meadowvale Blvd at the lights. The park will be on your right. Or if you are coming from Erin Mills turn on to Meadowvale (just north of Derry Rd) and keep driving until you see the park on your right just past Meadowpine Blvd. Don't mix up Meadowvale and Meadowpine!

One sentence says it all about this park: If I had a dog park it would look exactly like Totoredaca Park.

The park is on the North edge of Mississauga sorrounded by lots of open space. The parking lot is big enough for everyone although it gets full on the weekends but there is plenty of street parking available. As you enter the park - the gates are in perfect condition - you can choose to go to the small dog area or to the main park. If there were no dogs here one could think the place is someone's well kept private back yard. There is a nice boardwalk at the front and some flowers and other tasteful decor. There is a recycling (blue) box next to a garbage bin - a rare sight in public parks.

There is a shady area on the left with big trees and a couple of benches. Benches, by the way, are all over the park, some made out of giant logs which looks really neat. You can train your dog in the enclosed, medium sized agility training area or (what I like the most about this park) you can give your dog a bath - running water and hoses are provided as well as two large plastic tubs (summer only) where the dogs can play and cool down. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but no other dog park in Mississauga has water.

A portable washroom is available in the parking lot, and I even saw a "medical center" - it was closed at the time of my visit, but then again, I didn't go during dog park rush horus. Membership forms are available from a box by the bulletin board. $10/year for one dog or $15/year for two or more dogs. Well worth it! Membership is also valid at other Mississaga dog parks.

They park has a website too at www.totoredaca.org. Put you pooch in the car and go to the Totoredaca Park right now! Congratulations to the park keepers!

I have tried this park quiet a few times because I like the space and my first time there I had a good experience, but only the first time. Every time since there has been at least one bully personlaity dog there who will fixate on my dog (who is medium sized but light in build) and will not refocus to the other large dogs or relent even when I remove my dog from the situation. Proceeding to jump on me and grab at my dog, and ignore their owner.

This last time, I did meet a nice yorkie owner on our way out who proceeded to kick the bully dogs out, but by then we had made a decision to leave. I hope that she will continue to do so, that the park may one day be welcoming again.

As I said, most of the dogs there are nice, but there is usually at least one who makes the experience unenjoyable for lighter breed dogs.

Until then, I would not say this park is welcoming to lighter breeds.

2010-03-02

This is by far the best park in Mississauga. We have a small cockapoo and she has never been bullied at this park. Obviously it took us a few trips so she could get acquainted to the regular dogs there and familiar with the place. Thumbs up for all the dog owners and dogs at Totoredaca.

Tom Chater Park

North side of The Collegeway between Winston Churchill Blvd and Ridgeway Dr. View map »
The park is exactly halfway between Winston Churchill Blvd and Ridgeway Drive on the North side. Can't miss it.

I read somewhere that there is a small dog run in this park but couldn’t find it. But that’s ok because the park is big enough so you can let well behaved dogs off the leash. There are 3 baseball diamonds and a full size soccer field and lots of “empty” open space.

The parking lot is big and in good condition, parking is free and there are no membership fees either as this is a city park. There are no bags so make sure you bring your own and pick up after your dog – show all non-dog-owners that we care and they shouldn’t automatically associate a dog in a park with poop left behind.

There are washrooms just by the parking lot and benches here and there as well as a playground for kids – if your dog is unsure or aggressive around kids don’t go near the playground. Let the kids play in peace and don’t make the parent worry either. Of course, if your dog is friendly with kids, the playground can turn into a petting zoo in no time!

The park is clean and well maintained, the grass is in perfect condition. (the place may as well be called dandelion park because one area is completely covered with these tiny yellow flowers.) Closes at 10pm.
