Dog parks in Pickering

 Valley Farm

Thanks for this submission: There's a new off leash park at Valley Farm and 3rd Concession. Part of the Seaton Trail. Have not yet been but am checking it out today. Fenced in area and different sections (apparently) for small vs. large dogs.

NOTE: someone says that this park is unsafe because of garbage on the ground (glass, etc.) Until someone tells me that the park is OK to visit and review I will not visit this place to find out that it is really unsafe. Please keep me posted. Thanks.

went to this park today for first time expecting a little park.
its huge! there was about 5 other owners there at around 4-5pm
the trails are pretty big, so bring lots of drinks for you and your dog. there is no tap that i could see!

park was pretty clean, didnt see any garbage at all. except one butt pack!
i picked it up,
but i walked alot that day, so one butt pack ill let it slide :)

would def recommend checking out


i found it a little hard to find

i went north up valley farm road until i hit concession3 then made a left

also, they need to fence in the large dog park more

one side being fenced is not enough

my dog likes to adventure a little too much sometimes,
i dont think he'd go to far if there were dogs there, but if i was by myself..
i dunno
great park none the less..

Went today feb 20, was packed with dogs but little dog owners beware, the enclosure for small dogs is SO small.. it will only fit about 3 dogs max, also it is in the entrance way for other dog owners to get into the big dog park... can't believe they expect us to put our dogs in that tiny enclosure.. my crate is bigger then that!

This dog park is wonderful, except the enclosure beside the parking lot is meant for smaller dogs which no owners follow even though there is a sign that specifically says that it is for smaller dogs only.

I went to the off leash park in Pickering for the first time today and was under the impression that it was completely fenced in. I have three Jack Russells one of them likes to wander and does not always come back when called. I went to this park as I thought that I could leave him off leash and he would be safe.
The back of the park is not fenced in and he went down the hill into the forest area and the swamp and he would not come back. I thought I had lost him. I went back to the park area and luckily I saw him at the far end coming out of the forest. This park should be completely fenced in.

I'm a regular user of both off-leash areas at Valley Farm. The one beside the parking lot is fully fenced off and the ground is a cedar mulch, not garbage or glass etc like people have posted. The one down the path is partially fenced off and uses the forest for the rest. There is a covered area and the city has fenced off a poison ivy patch. Both are really well maintained and have poo bags and garbages available. I have NEVER seen wires or garbage or anything else and I go every week. The forest is supposed to be used for on-leash activity only, but this still offers a great network of trails in the forest and along the river.

I am so happy I have come across this park!!! Unfortunatly I am moving and it worries me that I wont find a park this great where I am moving. I reccommend this park to everyone!! The upper park is smaller yet completly fenced in, the park down the trail only has fence on one side, yet my dog doesnt run away so I can trust be will be fine in both parks. I have never had any trouble with the people or the dogs that come to this park.

Brilliant! Dog park next to the car park is fully enclosed and large enough for big dogs. Bring your own water though. The dog park at the bottom of the hill is excellent, although not fully fenced. If your dog is adventurous, stick to the top park. Well done Pickering, this is just what dog-owners needed here!

Absolutely wonderful. Upper off leash area is grassy and completely enclosed. Right next to the parking lot with easy access for those with mobility challenges. It's large enough for a great run and small enough to maintain control of your dogs. Completely fenced with attractive log and wire fencing. The only area a dog may wiggle out is under the gates if small enough. Poop bags provided at the site. Some good shaded areas. Only improvement would be a water source (even if we had to pay for it)so bring lots of water especially on hot days.
Bottom off leash area down the hill is very large with some shade and a lovely gazebo to sit under. Good fencing for 3/4 if the way around but at the back there is no fencing and my dogs quickly found ways to get out and the way to the swampy area. Just past the larger offleash area is a wonderful trail running along side a creek for great leashed walks as part of your outing. All in all I think that the City of Pickering along with it's offleash advocates have done a wonderful job and should be very proud. Again - a pay as you use water dispenser (at each site) would be appreciated by many an owner. We bring a large bucket!

I have two fairly large dogs, went there only to find that the fencing used is made of a log style (very nice) however, the dogs can easily go under and throught the fence. The surface is all soil, and it looks like it came from the old dump site (across the road), full of junk, watch for glass, wires and other sharp objects. I would not recommend it, my dogs love to chase each other, a lot of rolling, they were quite dirty, and the sharp objects made me worrisome. Perhaps in a couple of months grass will grow, but I had high hopes and was disappointed. I only saw the one area and it would be good for large dogs only.
