 Bruce Pit Dog Park

Cedarview Road just north of Hunt Club at Baseline Road. View map

Take the W. Hunt Club exit off 416 and drive North on Cedarview Road, the park will be on your right.

Bruce Pit park is the number one destination for dog owners in the Ottawa area. It's a very nice park with lots of dogs all the time. There are poop bags apparently as well as benches but most people come here to walk down the trails with their dogs not to sit around on benches;) There is a lake in the park where dogs are allowed to swim and play water-fetch.
In the winter make sure to bring your toboggan!

I have never been to this park but this is what I found out about it after some research online. If anybody has some nice photos of the park please send them to woof@ontariodogparks.com Thanks!

I have only recently been going to this park. In the beginning, I thought it was great and clean. I have gone over 20 times this winter and each time I have gone, I have noticed so much dog fecal matter that are not being picked up. I thought the dog owners who bring their dog here were more responsible but a lot of them just let their dog run and play and continue walking with their coffee in hand chatting away. It is a great environment for our dogs and to socialize ourselves but one must be responsible to clean up!!!

Since the Bruce Pit is huge, I was wondering if there is a smaller portion of it that is fenced for off-leash activities. If I let my cockapoos go in the main area - I probably wouldn\'t see them again for a week. They are definitley \"explorers\".

the lake area is off limits to dogs at all times.

I used to live adjacent to Bruce Pits before it was a dog park. I grew up there with my dog and wish every community had one! Since moving to the GTA, I really miss going there, especially since I just got a Golden! Great park, can be very busy on weekends and most owners let their dogs off leash in the parking lot so drive slowly!
Parking lot is huge by the way!
It is still part of the greenbelt so wildlife is everywhere, we used to see Fishers and foxes often so be on the lookout!

 Conroy Pit

Conroy Road South of Hunt Club View map

The National Capital Commission maintains the Conroy Pit (on Conroy, heading towards Greely). This park has both off- and on-leash areas, although I have found it confusing as to which is which. No signs indicate the on-leash zones and random fences pieces with off-leash signs on both sides are plenty. There is one poop bin at the start/finish of the most popular walking path which is about 8' wide for its entire length. There are numerous small, but lenghty trails branching off this path which crisscross the Pit's forested areas. Always lots of people on weekends and after the supper hour. Sometimes one must park on the street as the limited, but decent dedicated parking fills up quickly. Owners tend to be very responsible as the area is clean and free of dog poop, except in the dense brush or the odd diarrhea. Well worth a visit. Suitable for families with children of any age (incl. strollers) as well as the elderly. Only one steep climb on a branch trail near the Tobaggan hill.

(editor: I did some research and found that Conroy Pit Park seems to be the 2nd most popular park dog park around Ottawa - thanks Alex!)

My husband, our lab puppy & I visited Conroy Pit for the first time last Sunday! It was fantastic! So many happy, friendly dogs of all sizes & breeds and so many happy owners. I was impressed by the cleanliness considering how many dogs there were. We live in Petawawa but are going back to the park again soon and bringing friends with us. Wish we had this in our area.

It doesn't have to be an "official" off-leash park, any dog friendly area has its place on our website. If you feel comfortable taking your dog there and have good experiences then we want to hear about the place! Thank you all for the updates.
