Dog parks in Cambridge

 Cambridge dog park

A 1/2 acre all fenced in, muddy and soppy when wet, about 10 small trees planted, no shade, and you can get stuck in the parking lot when muddy.

Oh well, at least its fenced in and our dogs can run around.

Kennel cough is at this park. My dog was there last week and now has it.
Might want to stay away for a bit :(

The park is at its cleanest right now. Myself and a few other regulars have been picking up stray garbage and random poo bags. It is not my job to do this but it doesn't seem like it is going to get done unless everyone does a little extra. The mud has become plain dirt at the moment and when I was there Tuesday, March 20th there was a large mound of wood chips. Hopefully the city brings much more and when the rain comes it doesn't wash down over the grass that is trying to grow.
Please any dog owner who reads this, CLEAN up after yourself and your dog. If the garbages are overflowing don't just pile your junk on top. And what the heck, if you are picking up after your dog and there is a poo near by, fill your bag and help out a bit.

I took my dog there today-about 10 minutes tops from Hespeler-Dundas-very close to Riverside Park. Actually you are better off going there.The entrance and exit are pure mud holes. You have to go to the very back of the park to get to a dry area. I didn't step in any dog poop so not too bad that way. Garbage cans were overflowing-who knows when they were last emptied. If they could put some gravel and sand down to drain the front part of the dog park it would be a lot more enjoyable. Wasn't too crowded being Sunday and the warmest day of the year. Not a place for small dogs though unless they are extremely quick on their feet.

Just wanted to leave a quick comment re: the condition of this park. I went today for the first time with my 13 month old wheaten. I can appreciate that the muddy conditions aren't easily managed with the wet weather we've been having however, I read a post that dated back to the summer of 2010 where apparently the drainage issue was supposed to be fixed? Definitely disappointing that this hasn't been addressed yet, and here we are almost spring 2012. Secondly - and most importantly - I won't be going back to this dog park because clearly there are dog owners that do not do their due diligence in cleaning up after their dogs. I'm not talking one or two, I'm taking at least 10, that I saw today. One word for all you dog owners who don't scoop - LAZY!! I certainly don't want my pooch running in all that crap - literally! Two thumbs down, not to the park, but to the people who give us dog owners a bad name.

to the last poster, it doesn't matter if the city cares or not, you still pick up after your dog if you are a responsible citizen and dog owner!!!!!

Not everyone cares to pick up after their dog, why should the city care. I'm discusted people leave poop bags in the bag holders!!!! That's just lazy and rude.

This park is handy and not always a muddy mess. It is fully fenced in and many nice dogs go there to run and socialize.

As another poster stated, more owners could quit thinking "oh it's normal dog behaviour". My 6 yr old doesn't like dominant puppies chasing her down, biting into her neck fur and trying to hump her. Some dogs and dog owners don't get it that it is ok to intervene and let your dog know what's not appropriate--like the dog that stands up to pee on the picnic table seat!

I'm moving to Cambridge in a couple of weeks and am disgusted about the condition described about this so-called "dog-park". I do not own a pig, I own a DOG and will not waste my time. If the city doesn't care, why would dog owners care enough to pick up after their dog? I am amazed at how different cities have different standards of quality. I'll be commuting to Guelph or Kitchener and using the dog parks there. This is ridiulous.

Where is this park exactly? The google maps link doesn't seem to link me to the park, the area doesn't look fence and it's missing the pond someone mentioned in another comment. Can anyone give me an exact address or location or something? email me at elegwa@yahoo.com

I really love this park. My dog is 40lbs and I wouldn't recommend this park for dogs under 20lbs at the moment because they could get under the fence at the entrence and there isn's an area for smaller dogs.
Its great to let your dog socialize and run around but its not ok to not pick up after them. Lately there is more and more poo not being picked up. So please pay attention or if an owner happens to miss it help out if you saw it happen and direct them. Or (god forbid) pick up an extra one while your at it for your own dog. Also the little black poo bag despensors are not garbage bins for regular garbage or your dogs waste.

The space under the doors is too large. MANY pet owners have trouble keeping dogs from getting under the gate and on to the highway

I love this park. It is convenient for me and we've generally had positive experiences. I like that it is smaller and I can see my dog wherever she goes. Also, there's a nice pond out back where my lab goes for a swim after rolling in the mudpile in the back corner :o)

I try to keep the web site up to date so let me know of any issues; We have recently added some dispensors for poop bags. As far as previous comments, it is a shame the city we pay our tax dollars too can't take the pride or time to give us more to work with & allow us to better the park for our dogs! It can get pretty muddy during & after a good rain due to drainage but the city has given us their word to rectify that(?)...Thanks to all those that volunteer their time!

the cambridgdogpark.com link isn't working. I have been to the cambridge park recently, and am happy that some dog owners are trying to spiff it up for all of us. Kudos to you all. I want to help out more. Regular maintenance is key to keeping this well used park up to snuff, if not by the city, then by the owners.

I have provided poop bags for those who forget (please use them everyone), and do bring lots of water to share with all the dogs. Every little bit helps. Let's all do our part for the safety and fun of our pets.

And as much as I agree with some of the comments made, let's be realistic here. In NO dog park will you be able to state that ALL dogs visiting are trained to 1) stay off, 2) not want to meet and greet new visitors, and 3) not want to display a bit of dominence. Also, I highly doubt that the city will set aside money in their budget to install plumbing or a water feature just to ease our dogs thirst.

Think of it in comparison to a park for our kids. There will always be a bully, there will always be kids fighting for that last swing or the other seat on the teeter totter, and you will not find a fountain at every park.

I am thankful that I atleast have a safe environment for my dog to run and play!

Muddy, dirty and basically a fenced in pig sty for your dog to run in. That in mind however, my dog loves it.

Yes we stand around the picnic tables and talk, but isn't a park for socializing? If I wanted to run with my dog, I wouldn't in a mud pit.

I think it's embarrassing that Ontario Parks provide such a crappy, out of the way place for the dogs to play. It's like they put no thought into the park at all. They just put up a fence to give dog owners a place and shut us up.

Entry/Exit gates have large gaps, small dogs can easily escape.

Running water would be nice. A bit difficult for those of us with small dogs, it would be nice to have an area for dogs under 20lbs. We seem to have a lot of owners who think dog park means socializing at the picnic table totally ignoring their dog. Guess that could happen at any park.

PSA- review the do's and don'ts of off lease parks. Letting your dog jump all over people, display dominance and mount other dogs is not cool. Oh, and moving your dog away from the gate so newcomers can enter without being bombared would be awesome too.
