 Greenwood Conservation Area

Westney Road, north of Taunton Road. View map

Park entrance is at the north end of Church Street on the east side. Easy way to find it is to look for a zillion cars parked all over the place by the entrance and on the road.

My first impression was: Wow! Am I dreaming? A huge chunk of land just for dogs. Many trails and trees and even some - very swampy and stinky - water. No plastic bags but there is a garbage bin.

The center if the park seems like a meteor crater where nothing grows, full of dust and dirt and since it cannot easily be categorized as a conservation area they made it into a dog park.

But...around the crater the trails are greener (emphasis on "er") and we had a good time.

I will definitely not drive 90kms again to come back here but I don't regret the visit and can't wait to hear any comments others have about anything I failed to notice or take a picture of.

love the douche who posted the comment below about leashing the dogs everywhere except the quarry area ... another dog hater in the world.

Only a section of Greenwood is dogs off leash, not the Whole park. However, everyone disregards the areas, even the parking lots, that are clearly posted as Dogs on Leash and dogs run free the whole park, even the parking lot. Many many owners are allowing this as if the Whole park is leash free. Not cool if one does Not expect to have 15+ dogs running up to them every 5 mins, deep in areas far from the off leash section, where one should Not expect to encounter someone's strange large dog running and jumping on them or scaring their toddlers walking with parents. This type of incident and more was encountered both times being there, both days with not good experiences at all and very nasty attitudes of owners when asked to call off their large uncontrolled dogs. Please respect your pet's safety as well as others' enjoyment.

Went to the park yesterday with my 6 month old pup. We couldn\'t find the quarry but had a great time hiking the trails and following the creek. The trails that we were on were litter free and feces free. I thought it was beautiful.

Greenwood is an amazing off-leash park like no other I have come across. The area designated for dogs is actually an old quary that has been reclaimed and is slowly coming back to a more natural state. The "pit" area that is grass and gravel remains this way because of the high traffic of people and dogs, but this offers an amazing spot to get the dogs running with a chuck-it. The best aspect of this park is how far it is removed from major roads so there isn't any worry of dogs running out in traffic. People could do a better job of picking up after their dogs. Sometimes you see plastic bags left on the trail or tied to a tree, but these are usually picked up on the way back to the car and deposited in the waste bins (just doesn't look so nice for visitors).

Just came back from this park and had a great time. I would agree with some of the comments about the dog doo-doo but I found it cleaner than what I was expecting. It was nice to see all the owners we came across either with bags empty or full at the ready. Would love to see more garbage cans. The park itself was great. Lots of areas to walk around. I thought there was a fenced in off leash area but couldn't find it. I decided to let me dog off leash in the open area anyway (1st time doing so) and he had an absolute blast! Was great to meet all the other dogs and their owners. I really liked the fact that all the owners were not only very friendly but also always kept 1 eye on the action which I found at another park was not always the case. This made the experience excellent as I think the dogs all knew that they were being watched. All the dogs hit it off and welcomed my guy in after a brief introduction. We will ABSOLUTELY be back....maybe even tomorrow. Well done folks!!!

I live in Ajax about a 10 minute drive to the park and my dog and I love it great excersise for him and me. We try to get there every day weather permitting, I do agree that pet owners should pick up the crap and trash it. Other than that it is a delight to go.

I have found this park as well and my puppy and I love it there..yes there is a problem wirh the bags of dog shit every where but I carried mine for hours as there was no garbage container anywhere..but at the entrance to the park..I would find it better had there been covered container setup...the park it's self and almost everyone we met were fantasic...the trails were amazing everytime I have been there and we drove an hour and a half just to go there...nicest one we have found yet

I have two large dogs, went there with them March 25th. Could not find the area described as being in the north/west corner by the sand/gravel pit. What I did find was disgusting, hey you fellow dog owners pick up after your pets!!! Really really disgusting, you should be ashamed of yourself, feces just about everywhere especially nearer the parking area, and there is a grabage container provided. AND, the a-holes who are dumping their garbage there, I wish I saw you, you would be charged. There is a lot of garbage strewn about - dumped!!! This park is here for all to enjoy, you have ruined it.

The park is down the street from my house and today i watched a boston terrier get hit by car and i know there was about 3 others hit this year it is the WORST location for a dog park right beside a busy main road. It should be fenced or moved to the end of clements at the least if not moved to a totally different location. i would NEVER take my dog here. we pay lots of taxes it should be fully fenced at least of the side that the road is on.

I would never take my dog here again.. I was afraid to let her off leash because its located directly beside a main 4 lane road, and its only partially fenced, if fenced at all.. and its very small compared to the large park in greenwood conservation

I love this park!! I can\'t believe the size of it and how friendly the people and dogs are. What an awesome place to let the dogs run. I found it very clean (we went in July) and can\'t wait to take the dogs again. In one word this park is \"FANTASTIC\"

It doesn't have to be an "official" off-leash park, any dog friendly area has its place on our website. If you feel comfortable taking your dog there and have good experiences then we want to hear about the place! Thank you all for the updates.
